Most appointments last 20–45 minutes depending on hair amount and consultation needs. First visits may take longer for waxing preferences and skin prep. Arrive with hair about quarter-inch long; avoid heavy exfoliation the day before and shower before your appointment.
Some discomfort is normal, especially first time, but most clients tolerate it well. To minimize pain, avoid caffeine, exfoliate appropriately days earlier, take an over-the-counter pain reliever 30–60 minutes prior if needed, breathe deeply and schedule regular appointments to reduce sensitivity.
Prepare by growing hair to about 1/4 inch (roughly two weeks). Exfoliate gently 48–72 hours beforehand to prevent ingrown hairs, avoid topical retinoids or tanning for several days, skip heavy moisturizers the day of, and arrive clean and comfortable.
Aftercare includes avoiding hot baths, saunas, intense exercise and tight clothing for 24–48 hours. Apply a cool compress or recommended soothing gel, avoid sexual activity for 24 hours if irritation exists, and use gentle exfoliation after 72 hours to prevent ingrown hairs.
Those with active skin infections, sunburns, open wounds, recent chemical peels, or recent isotretinoin (Accutane) use should avoid waxing. If you have blood-clotting disorders, are on blood thinners, or are pregnant and concerned, consult your physician and inform your esthetician beforehand.
Most clients return every 4–6 weeks to maintain smooth results; with consistent waxing, hair often grows back finer and appointments can extend to 6–8 weeks. Frequency depends on individual hair growth cycles and personal preference for maintenance.
